Fruit and Vegetables: Approval for pesticide actives extended
Authorisations for the following chemical active substances have been extended (Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/869 of 24 June 2020 amending Implementing Regulation (EU) No 540/2011)
Maximum levels for pyrrolizidine alkaloids already in July?
The latest EU proposal provides for different maximum levels depending on the type of herb. If the members of the responsible SCoPAFF 1) of the EU Commission agree on 23.6. in their next meeting, the new limits could already apply in July.
Acrylamide - MRLs for baby and infant food envisaged
The EU Commission plans to set maximum levels for acrylamide in biscuits and rusks for infants and young children, as well as in baby food and cereal-based foods for infants and young children.

Enforced import regulations for some products from Non-EU countries
Import controls at the EU's external borders will be tightened for example for mandarins, peppers, spices and much more. The relevant EU regulation and its annexes have been updated.

The maximum levels for perchlorate are now set by Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/685 of 20 May 2020 under the European Contaminants Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006.
EFSA Scientific Opinion on the Risk Assessment of Ochratoxin A in Food

German authorities request more self-checks on spices
The reason for the detection of mycotoxins, pesticide residues and heavy metal contamination is usually due to the quality of raw materials, processing standards and storage conditions for spices (chili powder, pepper, paprika spices).
