Legal background in Europe
The European Union has set binding limit values for four particularly relevant PFAS: PFOS, PFOA, PFNA and PFHxS. These requirements are part of the contaminants regulation (EU) No. 2023/915. In addition, an EU Recommendation (No. 2022/1431) regulates the monitoring of further PFAS. The aim is to better record their occurrence in different foods and to assess overall exposure. AGROLAB GROUP supports manufacturers, retailers and authorities in meeting these requirements – with accredited laboratories and state-of-the-art analytics.
Our expertise in PFAS analysis
The laboratories of AGROLAB GROUP determine PFAS in food and feed using highly sensitive LC-MS/MS technology. We analyse all relevant matrices – from fish and meat to dairy products and plant-based foods. Our methods follow current EU regulations and recommendations to ensure that you receive reliable and legally compliant results.

Background knowledge:
How PFAS are detected
Determining PFAS requires extensive sample preparation and high-resolution mass spectrometry. Typically, the procedure begins with extraction from the food matrix, followed by clean-up using solid phase extraction (SPE) to remove interfering substances. The compounds are then separated and quantified by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Using this method, concentrations in the ng/kg range can be reliably measured.
Through the use of internal standards and regular proficiency testing, our laboratories ensure maximum accuracy. Even very low PFAS levels in complex matrices such as oils, meat or milk can thus be reliably detected. This technical basis is crucial for producing scientifically robust results that form the basis for official assessments.
