With these counter-sanctions, Moscow is again reacting to an extension of the sanctions of the Western powers after the annexation of the Crimea and the support of the separatists in Eastern Ukraine.
President Vladimir Putin signed a decree prohibiting the import of fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy products from the EU, the United States, Australia and Canada. In the European Union, after the import ban came into force in the summer of 2014, the meat and dairy industries in particular, which had an impact on export business with the Russian Federation, had to contend with the consequences of the import ban. Federation had focused on coping with massive losses. In the meantime, the industries have recovered and searched for new sales markets, especially in Asia.
