The German Society for Nutrition (DGE) has collaborated with the Austrian Nutrition Society (ÖGE) to develop new reference values for iodine and vitamin E intake.

The following recommendations for an adequate supply of these essential components have been developed:

For iodine: 150 µg/day for adults, except for pregnant women (220 µg/day) and breastfeeding women (230 µg/kg) and for infants (<4 months) 80 µg/day
For vitamin E (expressed as α-tocopherol and its derivatives): 8 mg/day for children, adolescents and adults, except for breastfeeding women (13 mg/day).

The new edition of the ‘Reference Values for Nutrient Intake’ published by the DGE and ÖGE contains updated values and tables on nutrient content in foods. The maximum recommended amounts for nutrients in food supplements and information from legislation have also been updated.

The DGE ring binder ‘Reference Values for Nutrient Intake’ is available from the DGE Media Service (subject to a fee).
