It refers to a mental disorder characterised by a compulsive desire to eat healthily at all times.
Orthorexia is a pathological fixation on healthy eating. At first, many people think: That sounds good, because who doesn't want to eat healthily? But it can quickly get out of hand.
Those affected divide foods into ‘good’ and “bad”, restrict themselves more and more, lose their zest for life – and often lose a lot of weight. Unlike anorexia, people with orthorexiado not count calories, but ban foods they consider ‘unhealthy’. The effect is similar: physical and psychological deficiencies develop.
A balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables, little meat and some fish, where meals are lovingly and carefully prepared, not only lifts the spirits, but is also wholesome and healthy.
