When it comes to vitamin intake, the saying "a lot helps a lot" does not apply. Essential vitamins must be regularly supplied to the body with food, but too much can be harmful.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has been dealing with the re-evaluation of tolerable daily intakes of vitamins, minerals and trace elements for some time.

The final opinion of EFSA's Panel on Nutrition, Novel Foods and Food Allergens (NDA) on vitamin B6 was recently submitted. After reviewing the comments on the last draft, no changes were made and the following "Tolerable Upper Intake Levels (UL)" were derived:

Age

Based on available intake data, it is unlikely that the EU population exceeds the UL. A possible exception is regular users of food supplements containing high doses of vitamin B6.
