Oil bottles

BASF's ‘Food and Health Performance Ingredients’ division produces plant-based ingredients and emulsifiers for the food industry.

The Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC), based in the Netherlands, is a global agricultural company that is particularly active in the grain, oilseed, coffee and sugar sectors, among others. The acquisition is intended to strengthen the growing plant-based ingredients business. These include, in particular, vegetable oils and fats, glycerine and lecithin.

The agreement signed in December also includes the acquisition of a production facility and a research and development centre in Illertissen, Germany, and three application laboratories outside Germany.

In view of the growing demand for meat substitutes based on vegetable proteins, LDC intends to use this purchase to expand its market position. BASF, in turn, wants to focus more on its core business, which also includes vitamin products and feed enzymes.
