With the EU Regulation 2024/2806 of 31.10.2024 published on 04.11.2024, the EU Commission announced the non-renewal of the authorisation for Metribuzin.

The active substance Metribuzin (CAS No. 21087-64-9) was used as an herbicide primarily on potatoes, wheat and in various vegetable crops. In the re-evaluation by the Commission, metribuzin was classified as endocrine disrupting and hazardous to bees. This has now led to the withdrawal of the authorisation. The Member States have been requested to withdraw authorisations for plant protection products containing this active substance by 24 May 2025 at the latest. Remaining stocks of such products must be used up by 24 November 2025.

After this date, the maximum residue levels for all types of fruit and vegetables can be expected to be lowered to the limit of determination of 0.1 mg/kg. Some lettuces in particular currently still have higher authorised maximum residue levels of 0.5 mg/kg.
