First results of the MEAL nutrition study published

The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) published the first results of the so-called MEAL study (Meals for Exposure Estimation and Analysis of Food).

 

The purpose of the study is a scientific inventory of the substances that the German population ingests on average through their daily meals. About 60,000 foods were analysed for almost 300 ingredients and possible contaminants. The decisive factor here is that the foods were examined in the form of the usual preparations on the basis of consumption habits.

 

The detailed excel tables include the measured values for heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury, but also for important ingredients such as vitamins.
