labeling

If you haven’t reviewed and adapted your food labels until now, you might run into trouble very soon. Although in fact it is too late, you should contact us asking for a conformity check, if you are uncertain and might have missed the important date.

The European Commission has published Regulation EU 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers (‘Food Information Regulation’), applicable to all member states of the European Union (EU) in November 2011!. This regulation makes nutrition labelling mandatory for pre-packed food and is to be implemented to full extent until Dec. 13th , 2016.

These nutrition declarations shall be applied to all food business operators and to all foodstuffs sold to the final consumer. The consumer can thus compare information between two foodstuffs and choose the appropriate food.

Energy values (in Kcal and KJ), the amounts of lipids, saturated fatty acids, carbohydrates, sugars, proteins and salt must all appear in the principal field of vision in a readable table placed on the packaging. These values shall also be expressed per portion as recommended for daily consumption on the labelling per 100 g or 100 mL or per serving.

Nutritional information can be complemented voluntarily with other nutrients information (monounsaturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, polyols, starch, fiber, vitamins and minerals). However, this voluntary information can’t be added to the detriment of the space reserved for nutritional information.
